GLP launches industry report for recovery and resilience - #TourismStrong: Lessons and Solutions for a Sustainable Tourism Future


As people worldwide mark the one year anniversary of global lockdown, and reflect on the personal and professional losses incurred by so many, we are building on our commitment to bring the travel industry together at a time when it’s most needed. 

Like everyone, we felt helpless when lockdown hit the industry. It was so sudden, it felt almost like an earthquake. Entering crisis mode, we reached out to our industry friends, many of whom are small community-led tourism operators. We were blown away by their stories of resilience and determination and so, we did what we do best - we featured them in a series of moving short films, which we entitled #TourismStrong. 

#TourismStrong also made us feel strong again, inspired by those who were just getting out there and doing their utmost to survive, sustain their businesses and communities. Their stories said so much and so we have taken what we learned from our proactive partners and curated them into a report: #TourismStrong - Lessons and Solutions for a Sustainable Tourism Future. The report is free, of course, because kind words shouldn’t cost anything during these times.

Just to give you a flavor of the stories that informed and inspired us, take a look at our short film below featuring just a handful of our #TourismStrong film contributors. As one of these wise elders, Dalmiro Portillo, mountain guide at Mountain Lodges of Peru, tells us in his film:

“I like to talk about chapters. The past, the last chapters are closed. We need to open new ones. Who knows how it’s going to be like? I’m sure it’s still going to be precious….we need the earth to start dancing.”
